RESEARCH SUMMARY HERE
The overarching theme of our current research is the development of “smart” materials; i.e., materials that have been judiciously designed (through surface chemistry or topography) to perform a function when stimulated externally or offer enhanced properties based on their design. My research group consists primarily of experimentalists although our approach relies heavily on a fundamental understanding of the underlying physics before the development of applied “smart” materials.

RESEARCH SUMMARY HERE
My research centers on designing self-healing modular panel prototype for lunar and space missions impacted by Micro-Metreroids. The prototype comprises polymer/CNT nanocomposite sandwiched between aluminum metal plates. The idea is to have the nanocomposite( upon crack damage) self-healing ability activated by melting it and making it flow through any crack, then solidifies and sealing it. The aim of this research firstly to enhance the thermal conductivity of the polymer using high thermally conductive fillers to ensure effective heat transfer around the materials. We also aim to investigate flow behavior of the nanocomposite melt as they travel through cracks.
